“Crime and public safety are two major issues I hear across the entire Ward from residents and businesses,” said Ward 4 Candidate Matt Marchand.

Love Our Hood: Crime Prevention and Safety Strategies features more than 15 recommendations and ideas. Some key highlights include:

  1. More Frontline Police: Redirect police resources to problem areas and free up officers through reducing time spent in hospitals on Mental Health Act and overdose calls and retasking those on accommodated duties (as appropriate) to help frontline officers with call backlogs.
  2. More Lighting: As a pilot project, determine 10 crime hot spots based on police calls for service and community needs, install lighting immediately, and measure results. This can provide broad and immediate relief. Memorial Park would be one of the 10 pilot projects.
  3. Crime Prevention: Encourage more community engagement with Windsor Police Services or Ontario Provincial Police using Crime Prevention Walks and increase awareness of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design services for residents and businesses.
